Amr ibn al-‘As belonged to the Banu Sahm clan of Quraysh. In the earlier days he fought with the Quraysh against Islam until he saw the Muslims praying and became interested in Islam which led to his acceptance of the religion. He was an Arab military commander known for leading the Muslim conquest of Egypt in 640.
